BING!

BING!

No, that is not your door bell ringing, nor is it Monica calling Chandler. That is the sound Microsoft in Google’s ear. It seems that Microsoft might have finally hit the nail in the head with it’s new search engine bing. Microsoft has finally done what most search engines could not accomplish, take a bite out of Google’s market share. The truth is that Bing is very well done. Microsoft stole the clean interface idea from Google and put a new search engine behind it.

Bing has some very cool features. I love the video search. For once I am able to search for video and get results from sites other than youtube and google video. I love that you can hover over the thumbnail and get a preview of the video without going to the site. Although, Microsoft will probably be forced to shutdown this feature, it is very cool one. Another great feature of being is it’s related searches suggestions. The suggestions will usually lead you find more interesting information on the term you are searching for. One of the downsides of technology is that you have to know how to use it. Google makes it very easy to use because of it’s amazing search capabilities. Bing has taken it a step further. Not only does it provide very good results, it also does some of the thinking for you by providing you with related searches.

The bottom line is that bing is by no means google, but it could be very well on it’s way to stealing a big chunk of market share from google. Although it may be a very difficult job given that google has become part of our culture, and it will take a revolutionary product to knock google off its orbit, Microsoft has a good starting point with bing.
